LJUBLJANA — Slovenia’s Foreign Ministry condemned Israel’s recent attacks on the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which injured four personnel, and called for an immediate ceasefire.
“Slovenia condemns the IDF’s firing at the UNIFIL HQ peacekeeping personnel. These actions represent a serious breach of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and international humanitarian law,” the ministry said on social media platform X, emphasizing the need for peacekeepers’ protection under international law.
Slovenia, along with other non-permanent UN Security Council members, expressed deep concern over the attacks on UNIFIL positions on Oct. 10 and 11. They urged respect for humanitarian law and peacekeeper safety, stressing that deliberate assaults on peacekeepers constitute a serious violation.
The group also called for an immediate ceasefire amid escalating civilian casualties and displacement in Lebanon.
